Scope and Contents

Series consists of administrative project records generated by Laura Stark in the course of her work on VANV. Records include grant proposals, institutional review board (IRB) documents, blank copies of release and authorization forms, interview questions and instruments, a transcription guide and protocol, job descriptions and CVs for VANV research staff, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request correspondence. The records obtained via Stark’s FOIA request may be found in the "NIH Normal Volunteer Patient Program Records, 1954-2002" series.

A selection of data files are open for research; access to some data files is restricted until the publication of Laura Stark’s book, The Normals: A People’s History, University of Chicago Press. Access to the restricted data files may be granted at the discretion of the author; to request access, contact Laura Stark (contact information available at http://www.laura-stark.com/). If access to restricted files is approved, the files will be made available for viewing in the Center for the History of Medicine reading room.
