Waterhouse, Benjamin, 1754-1846, 14 A.L.s. to Mary (Waterhouse) Ware, folder 1, 1823 August 11-1825 May 23, 1823 August 11-1825 May 23 Digital
Scope and Contents
Waterhouse asks his daughter to procure and send William Tudor's Letters on the Eastern States to her brother Benjamin in Glasgow. He also discusses her other siblings, writing: "My comfort, pride, trouble & mortification arise from my children; and of them Daniel's conduct is the most distressing." While Waterhouse was under the impression Daniel was traveling in the East Indies, he tells Mary he has learned his son is in jail in Philadelphia for fraud. He also provides updates on her brother Andrew's affairs. In one letter following the birth of Mary's son, William, Waterhouse writes, "One piece of advice, as a physician, do not exert yourself to get abroad too soon." One letter dated 1825 May 23 is missing pages.
