Historical Note

In 1936 as part of the University's tercentennial celebration, Pierre de C. la Rose designed a heraldic emblem for the Medical School by combining the coats of arms of Harvard College with those of the first Harvard Medical School professor Dr. John Warren. La Rose's design was incorporated into a flag for the Medical School. In December 1963, both the United States and Harvard Medical School flags atop Gordon Hall were at half-staff in memory of President Kennedy and Dr. Walter Bauer.
