The records include congregational constitutions and by-laws; records relating to construction, renovation, and new building projects; financial records of the congregation and its organizations; meeting records of congregational administrations, standing committees, and subsidiary organizations; membership records; service and hymnal records; scrapbooks relating to congregation activities and events; administrative correspondence and subject files; records relating to the Massachusetts Universalist Convention; records pertaining to the work, including some sermons, of the various ministers of the congregation; pew deeds; treasurer records, including fund-raising records; and records pertaining to the dissolution of the society.

Biographical / Historical

The Second Universalist Society of Boston, Massachusetts, was founded in 1817 with Hosea Ballou as its minister. It was established to accommodate the expanding community of the First Universalist Society in Boston. In 1935, the Second Universalist Society merged with the Arlington Street Church under the ministerial leadership of Dana McLean Greeley.
