Biographical / Historical

Henry Laurens Hayward (1815-1899) was born in Rutland, New York, and had an early career as a teacher. Although raised a Presbyterian, he was ordained as a Universalist minister in Henderson, New York, in 1841, and served congregations throughout New York, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, and Colorado. He was also a member of the Michigan State Convention of Universalists. He last served as a minister in Longmont, Colorado, in 1882 and spent the remainder of his life dedicated to journalism as editor of the Longmont Ledger.
