Biographical / Historical
The society was incorporated February 11, 1823, and the church was organized on January 1, 1836. In 1834 a hall in a building on the north side of Cambridge Street, between Third and Fourth Streets, was rented by the society; this became known as Berean Hall. The society purchased and remodeled it, and it was dedicated on December 5, 1843. In 1865, the society erected a new church building on the north side of Otis Street between Third and Fourth Streets. Around 1901, the society arranged with the Rev. George Waters Bicknell of the First Universalist Church in Cambridge to conduct services for the Second Society. On January 7, 1907, the society held their last meeting.
