Overview
This collection consists mainly of college papers and sermons of Unitarian minister Earl Morse Wilbur (1866-1956). A translation of The Political and Social Ideals of the Polish Brethren, Called Socinians, by Stanislas Kot is also included. This manuscript was translated by Wilbur, and was later published as Socinianism in Poland: The Social and Political Ideas of the Polish Antitrinitarians in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries.

3 boxesThis collection consists mainly of college papers arranged by course; and sermons, chronologically arranged. A typed and annotated manuscript entitled The Political and Social Ideals of the Polish Brethren, Called Socinians, by Stanislas Kot, is also included. Stanislas Kot was born in Ruda, Austria-Hungary in 1885. He graduated with a PhD in philosophy from Lviv University in 1911. He was a professor at the University of Krakow from 1920 to 1933. After the occupation of Poland in 1939, Kot became part of the Polish government-in-exile, serving in various posts until his resignation in 1947. He remained in exile in London until his death in 1975. He is the author of numerous historical books on education, politics, and culture. Earl Morse Wilbur translated this manuscript from Polish to English and it was published in 1957 as Socinianism in Poland: The Social and Political Ideas of Polish Antitrinitarians in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries.
Biographical / Historical
Earl Morse Wilbur (1866-1956) graduated from the University of Vermont in 1886 and Harvard Divinity School in 1890. He was ordained to the Unitarian ministry in 1892 and served parishes in Portland, Oregon, and Meadville, Pennsylvania. From 1904 to 1931, he was dean and president of the Pacific Unitarian School, now the Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, California. He was a preeminent scholar of Unitarian history, publishing three volumes, Our Unitarian Heritage (1925), History of Unitarianism: Socianism and Its Antecedents (1945), and History of Unitarianism: In Transylvania, England and America to 1900 (1952).
