Whitney & Dorr account books

Scope and Contents

Five account books kept by merchants Joseph H. Dorr and John Whitney, of Boston, Massachusetts, from 1796 to 1813. Volume one contains an inventory of goods, including sugar, copper, salt, and lamp oil, as well as a list of debts owed to Whitney & Dorr, dated 1796-1800. Volume two contains an inventory of goods, debts, and stock, dated 1797-1800. Volume three contains accounts due of Joseph H. Dorr to the stock of Whitney & Dorr, dated 1803-1806. Volume four contains an inventory of goods, debts, and stock, dated 1799-1803. Volume five contains accounts due of John Whitney to the stock of Whitney & Dorr, dated 1807-1813.

Whitney & Dorr was a merchant partnership formed by John Whitney and Joseph H. Dorr, active in Boston, Massachusetts, between the 1790s and 1810s. The firm marketed groceries, hardware, and other household items like lamp oil.
