Collection consists of the personal papers of Henry Newman Carmichael, Jr. (MBA 1940), predominantly from his time as an MBA student at the Harvard Business School (then the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration). Includes correspondence about classwork and building supply business with his father Henry Newman Carmichael. Also includes school publications and academic materials such as report cards and correspondence with Professor of Economics Charles Cortez Abbott, and memorabilia from his social life, such as dance cards and photographs of the campus.

The collection includes correspondence with his father Henry Newman Carmichael about his class assignments and the building supply business, Chandler and Co. Inc. Also includes HBS materials such as report cards and correspondence with Professor of Economics Charles Cortez Abbott, and handbooks, yearbooks, and Official Registers from the school. There is also memorabilia from his social life, such as dance cards for events at Wellesley College and Smith College, ticket coupons and schedules for athletic events, and photographs of the campus.
Biographical / Historical
Henry Newman Carmichael Jr. was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on April 29, 1918 to mother Geraldine and father Henry Newman Carmichael, and he died in Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 1, 2003. He was an MBA student at Harvard Business School from fall 1938 to spring 1940. His father, Henry Newman Carmichael, was the President of the building supply company Chandler and Co. Inc., where Carmichael Jr. worked in his youth. He married Kathrine Miles Eastin (1922-1989) had one daughter, Jeannine Eastin Carmichael (1946–2012).
