Scope and Contents
The Howard Gambrill, Jr. papers contains newspaper clippings, photographs, and correspondence chiefly written to Gambrill, Jr., executive at the Gillette Safety Razor Company in Boston, Mass. The correspondence dates from 1938 to 1962, just after his retirement in 1959. The correspondence includes notes written to Gambrill, Jr. upon his promotion to vice president and after his retirement was made public to the company. The photographs are mostly images taken of Gambrill at company outings and events.

Howard Gambrill, Jr. was born in Missouri on December 5, 1907. He attended Yale University and graduated in 1929 with a bachelor of science in engineering. He began working at the Gillette Safety Razor Company in the 1930s in the engineering department. In 1942 he was awarded a patent for a "protected blade" razor. He was elected vice president of the company in 1947 and served until 1952 when he was elected vice president and director. Gambrill retired from Gillette in 1959. He died in Weston, Mass. November 18, 1984.

The Howard Gambrill, Jr. papers were received by Baker Library Special Collections as a donation from Mrs. Polly Gambrill Slavet in 2004.
