The United States Rubber Company records contains materials related to operating a rubber products manufacturing company. These records particulary focus on the consolidation of nine companies to form the firm, including the records of two of the companies, Boston Rubber Company and L. Candee and Company. Records include minutes of executive committee and directors’ meetings, treasurers' reports, lists of shares of stock, bills payable and receivable, purchase and sales accounts, memoranda of agreements, production records, prospectuses, statements of financial condition, sales contracts, and correspondence.

Biographical / Historical

The United States Rubber Company formed in 1892 in Naugatuck, Connecticut consolidating nine rubber manufacturing companies. The records of two of those companies are documented in this collection, Boston Rubber Company (founded 1878) and L. Candee and Company (founded 1852 in New Haven). When the Dow Jones Industrial Average debuted in 1896, United States Rubber Company was one of the 12 inaugural industrial manufacturing stocks included. The company was rebranded as Uniroyal, Inc. in 1961, and has operated as a subsidary of Michelin since 1990.
