4.75 linear feet (14 volumes, 5 boxes)The collections includes minutes, stockholders' records, ledger (1864-1866), labor agreements (1889-1913), reports and statistics, substantially all the records which have survived for this company. With the collection came a few pictures and printed labor agreements and price lists.
Biographical / Historical
Rockport Granite Company was organized on 1864 with granite quarries located in Rockport, Massachusetts. The company gradually acquired other granite properties on Cape Anne, including the Cape Ann Granite Company in 18933, and the Pigeon Hill Granite Company in 1914. The main company thus had numerous properites in Rockport and Gloucester, and offices in Boston and New York. There were several unions and several strikes, and the company never quite recovered after the strike in 1922. The company was liquidated in 1930.
