Andrew Clow & Co., a merchant partnership formed by Andrew Clow (1750-1793) and David Cay (died 1793), was active in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, between the 1780s and 1790s. The Andrew Clow & Co. records, dated 1790-1799, consist of accounts and correspondence with Alexandria, Virginia, merchants William Wilson & Co. related to stock transfers and a lawsuit filed by Andrew Clow & Co. against the company. There is also a small amount of correspondence and accounts with other merchants, and an undated map.

Historical Note:

Andrew Clow & Co., a merchant partnership formed by Andrew Clow (1750-1793) and David Cay (died 1793), was active in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, between the 1780s and 1790s. The firm owned ships and engaged in trade at ports in the United States, the Bahamas, England, and Europe. Andrew Clow & Co. exported flour, grain, sugar, and tobacco, and imported textiles and liquor. The company additionally brokered stock. Andrew Clow and David Cay died in the yellow fever epidemic of 1793, and the company's interests were subsequently handled by executors William Cramond, Hugh Holmes, and John Leamy.
