8 linear feet (7 cartons, 1 box, 1 flat box)The collection consists of ephemera, bulletins, albums, and administrative and student records from the United States Army Quartermaster Corps Reserve Officers Training Corp, 1941-1944. The collection includes a photograph album depicting student training activities, press clippings, and an in-depth view from 1942 of the nature of the training, including a brief discussion of individual courses and what students accomplish in each course.
Historical Note:
In 1941 Army's Quartermaster Corps decided to establish a Reserve Officers Training Corps at Harvard Business School, the first to be located at a graduate school. The program lasted until June of 1943, at which time the War Department activated all reserve officers and terminated its ROTC courses. The direct descendant at HBS of the QMC ROTC program was the Army Supply Corps Officers Training School (ASOTS). Instruction in the program, designed to train officers for the business of supplying the Army, was provided in part by HBS faculty members and in part by instructors from the Army. Facilities and services were provided by Harvard for part of the training and by the Army camp at Ft. Lee, Virginia, for the remainder. The duration of the course was twelve months, and instruction was by the case method.

Materials for the collection were brought together from various resources at Baker Library Historical Collections. Duplicates from Series were discarded. Paper clips, rubber bands, and binders have been removed. Materials have been refoldered and rehoused in acid-neutral containers.
