James Bolton estate management accounts
Scope and Contents
One combined day book and journal. The journal records debits and credits, including withdrawing cash, paying money to estates, private expenses and banks. The credits include rent, private accounts, and deposits into several bank accounts. The day book contains information related to a variety of transactions such as cash paid for repairing a culvert on the Bellevue property and the estimation of brickwork for a new property. The principal estates managed by James Bolton were Grace Street property, the Sarah Bolton estate (mother of James Bolton), Bellevue Hospital (private hospital in Richmond, Virginia), stores and tenements on Liberty and Broad Streets.

Dr. James Bolton (1812-1869) practiced medicine and surgery in Richmond, Virginia, where he operated a private hospital, Bellevue, from 1855 to 1866. He resided on Grace Street in Richmond.
