Series II: Nathaniel Holmes, 1728-1774
Scope and Contents
Nathaniel Holmes, 1728-1774 Accounts current, bills, receipts, orders to pay, survey, account of stock, memoranda, estate and ships' papers. Items before 1735 reflect Holmes as "joyner", documents from 1735-1745 detail his distillery business, and records from the mid-1740s celebrate Holmes' increasing success as merchant. Vessels named include brigs Two Sisters, Victory; sloops America, Betty, Biddeford, Defiance, Desire, Fox, Good Intention, Good Understanding, Mermaid, Molly, Plymouth, Thomas; schooners Dolphin, Dove, Elizabeth, Fanny, Katy, Lydia, Mary, Rebecca, Tobago Packet; and snows Four Brothers, Hazard, Freemason, Wheel of Fortune. Others included in this series are nephew Benjamin, brother George, and son-in-law William Fowle.
