William Tudor, Sr., indentures and deeds, 1780-1807 Digital

Scope and Contents

Contains bonds, deeds, and other legal papers of William Tudor, Sr., dated 1780-1807. Includes a bond from John Bacon to Sarah Bagnall, subject to a legal dispute in which Tudor was a referee; copy of a bond from Hannah Rowe, Tudor, Richard Green, and John Haskins, to Oliver Wendell, to pay a debt of John Rowe's estate; and a deed of the Fresh Pond Farm in Cambridge from Tudor to Charles Storer. There is also a proposed agreement to Charles Snelling Powell from Tudor on behalf of the proprietors of the Boston Theatre, outlining terms and conditions of the upcoming season. The letter cites the proprietors' dissatisfaction with Powell's management of the theater's first season, and Tudor writes, "we can no longer submit to the humiliating idea of the Boston Theatre being considered as the most inferior one in the United States."
