This subseries contains the records of Cutler DeLong. West, chemist who worked in the research and development department at Polaroid beginning in 1935. West was one of the earliest employees at Polaroid and worked primarily on headlights and polarizers before he turned his attention to photography.

Biographical / Historical

Cutler DeLong West was one of the first employees of Polaroid, working for the company for 34-years. He was involved in researching the chemistry of crystalline substances and uses of light polarizers. He earned a BA from Wesleyan University in 1924, MA from Harvard University in 1929, and a PhD in chemistry from Harvard in 1934. He died in 1993.
