Scope and Contents

Contains accounts and legal records, dated 1653. There is an account of Francis Perry copied from John Gifford's journal, for varied labor performed by Perry and his sons; Perry later sued John Becx and Co. and John Gifford for unpaid wages. Also includes court documents related to the lawsuit between the Undertakers of the Iron Works and John Gifford, such as a petition to the Massachusetts General Court by Robert Bridges, Henry Webb, and Joshua Foote, on behalf of the iron works, to present their case; and depositions and testimony of Samuel Harte, Theophilus Bayley, George Kesar, John Gifford, and Joshua Hewes. There are additionally expenses related to protested bills of exchange, findings of a jury in a lawsuit against the iron works brought by Thomas Savage and list of damages to be paid, and court petitions of laborers at the iron works for wages due, as well as an inventory of stock and tools at the iron works, which included 37 Scottish prisoners.
