Materials consist of loose and sewn papers, as well as some ledger books. The drafts include annotations, corrections, and deletions, which may be of interest when compared with the formal entry of the same vote found in the formal minutes. There are significant gaps in coverage in this series.

These photographs depict the staff activities including travel and research, of the Harvard College Observatory as well as the the landscape, buildings, and equipment in Cambridge and at observatory stations in Colorado, California, Jamaica, and South America (chiefly Peru). Research was primarily astronomical, but also included some meteorological observation.
