Biography
Robert Getchell, son of Joshua and Phoebe (Gray) Getchell, was born in Wells, Maine on July 24, 1771. He continued to reside in the town of his birth where he farmed his land, worked on farm implements and boats, cut wood and sold fish and farm produce. He married his first wife, Priscilla Littlefield, in 1795, or there about; the couple had nine children. In 1818, he married his second wife, Lydia Maxwell; they had ten children. Robert Getchell died on April 11, 1854.
