Overview: The Elliott Carr Cutler Papers, 1911-1948, document the administrative, teaching, research, and professional activities of Elliott Cutler, Moseley Professor Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Surgeon-in Chief of Peter Bent Brigham Hospital.
Scope and Contents: Consists chiefly of letters from Harvey Cushing to Frederic Woldenor Schreiber (1897-1959); there is also a small amount of correspondence with patients, a letter and a telegram from Louise Charlotte Eisenhardt (1891-1967) to Schreiber regarding Cushing's failing health and death, and Cushing's notes and sketches from two surgical operations on patient Mary Ellen Martin in 1928 and 1929.
Overview: Contains 13 volumes of letterbooks and correspondence, including letters, 1912-1944, from Peter Bent Brigham Hospital staff to Christian and correspondence, 1910-1939, between Christian and Harvey Cushing, H. B. Howard, J. B. Howland, and hospital trustees. Also 23 scrapbooks with letters to Christian, clippings, photographs, and programs, dating from 1891 to 1951.
Scope and Contents: Consists of letters to James Gregory Mumford, primarily regarding Mumford's publications and speaking engagements as well as his health. Correspondents include Harvey Cushing, George Washington Crille, Sir William Osler, George Edmund Schweintz, and William Roscoe Thayer. Also includes handwritten draft letters to the editors of American Medicine and Outlook written by James Gregory Mumford, and letters from Harvey Cushing to George Saltonstall Mumford and Francis James Steward.
